What is a health locker, and what is it not?
In India’s Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), a health locker is a registered digital place where a person can keep copies of health records and share them with consent. The National Health Authority describes ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) and lockers on abdm.gov.in. PatientSaathi is not a live health locker. This site does not store lab reports, prescriptions, or vaccine records.
What a locker is (official picture, in plain words)
- ABHA is a health ID you can create if you want your records available digitally across participating providers. Official creation is through NHA channels such as abha.abdm.gov.in.
- A health locker (in the ABDM sense) is a service that can hold copies you upload or that a participating hospital/lab shares, under your consent.
- ABDM’s public material describes a federated setup: records are not all sitting in one government folder. Many stay with the hospital or lab that created them.
You do not need an ABHA number just to walk into a Delhi clinic. Some facilities may offer to create or link one. That is optional for a first visit unless that facility says otherwise at their counter.
What it is not
- It is not the paper file or HIS record the hospital keeps on its own system.
- It is not PatientSaathi’s Family Health Record block (that block is “coming soon” and does not store anything).
- It is not Ask Sathi. Ask Sathi is a homepage demo. It does not read your reports and it does not diagnose.
- It is not a backup of every scan you ever did. If a hospital never linked the record, the locker will not magically have it.
For current official rules and apps, use abdm.gov.in. Do not treat this page as an NHA manual.

Not a doctor. This page is health-admin information for people in Delhi. It is not a diagnosis, a prescription, or a care plan.
